SISU: Quilombola students from the State Public Network are approved in the Medicine and Veterinary Medicine courses at UFCG

Two students who graduated from the Escola Estadual de Ensino Fundamental e Médio (EEEFM) Senador José Gaudêncio, from the municipality of Serra Branca, were approved for the Medicine and Veterinary Medicine courses at the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG). Both competed in quota places for self-declared quilombola candidates and were selected by the first call on the Unified Selection System (SISU) 2024 waiting list, released last Monday, April 1st.

Ana Luiza participated in the National High School Exam (Enem) 2023, and obtained a grade of 900 in writing. She took advantage of her grades and registered at SISU to compete for the quota position and managed to get approval on the first call.

To help prepare for the tests and writing, Ana focused on studying at school with her teachers, and took advantage of classes and events from the Se Liga no Enem and Desafio Nota 1000 programs, both promoted by the Government of Paraíba, through the Secretariat State of Education.

“I was very surprised and happy, as it was something I really wanted. I studied for a good part of the day, and always focused on the most important subjects. Now I’m organizing my documentation and I’m going to strive to succeed at University, and always carry the name of Quilombo with me”, explained the student.

Rennally de Sousa Costa also took advantage of her Enem grades and secured a place on the Veterinary Medicine course at UFCG. “I prepared myself by studying YouTube videos from Se Liga no Enem, making summaries and participating in the Nota Mil Desafio, which helped me a lot”, he commented.

Students Ana Luiza Costa and Rennally de Sousa Costa are descendants of quilombolas from Quilombo Cantinho, which is located in the Rural Zone, 12 km from the city of Serra Branca.
