Doctor accused of sexual abuse is found dead in hospital in Pernambuco – Pernambuco

After being accused of sexual abuse, doctor Paulo Evandro Napoleão Lopes, 36 years old, was found dead in accommodation for healthcare professionals at Hospital Monsenhor Alfredo Dâmaso, in the city of Bom Conselho, in Pernambuco. According to the Extrathe body was found in the early hours of Tuesday (2).

Next to him was an empty ampoule with a medicine used to intubate patients. The body was sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML) in Caruaru for forensic examination.

The Pernambuco Civil Police detailed that the death occurred while he was on duty, and that Paulo asked a nurse for help to access the vein. However, she did not know what medicine would be injected.

In February 2023, he was investigated for an incident of indecent exposure against a 20-year-old patient. The victim reported that he had suffered sexual abuse during a service at the UPA of Jaraguá, in MaceióAlagoas, where the doctor worked as a doctor on duty at the time.

The Police Report was registered by the victim at the Central de Flagrantes, in Maceió. He detailed that the doctor did the penetration without consent after carrying out a digital rectal exam. The patient was seeking to diagnose a herpes lesion in the anus.

“I didn’t react. I just turned around. I didn’t. I couldn’t do anything. He started apologizing and said ‘I’m sorry, I got confused, I thought that was what you wanted’. He kept apologizing and stayed for about 15, 20 minutes trying to change the focus of the conversation and then he asked me not to talk to anyone.”

According to the patient, he tried to trick Paulo Evandro into leaving the office. The doctor was fired from the Jaraguá UPA, and denied the crime.
