To celebrate World Book Day, celebrated on 23/4, Copasa promotes the donation of approximately 2 thousand books to public schools in the Eastern region of Minas Gerais. The copies were donated by the company’s employees throughout the state who, through the Copasa Volunteers program, joined together in this action to encourage reading by more than 1,900 students in the cities of Belo Oriente, Capelinha, Jacinto and Mutum.

Coordinated by the Sustainable Development Unit (USDS) and in partnership with the municipalities’ municipal education departments, the Copasa team organized the donation and exchange fair “Donate books, donate imagination”. In just over two weeks, more than 2,000 books were collected, which will be distributed to the following schools:

  • Francisco Gonçalves de Brito Municipal School (Belo Oriente)
  • Municipal School Professora Luíza de Marilac Barbosa Pimenta (Capelinha)
  • Pedro Abelardo de Almeida Municipal School (Jacinto)
  • Gentil Simões Caldeira Municipal School (Mutum)

Copasa’s Sustainable Development manager, Luciana Barbosa, highlights the action. “The initiative values public spaces by holding an event open to the community, with the aim of promoting awareness about the importance of education and sanitation for the socioeconomic and environmental development of municipalities,” she stated.

In Belo Oriente, for example, the donation of books will be fundamental for the creation of the school library, as explained by the coordinator of the Copasa Volunteer Program, Robson Cesário de Souza. “The delivery of these books generated a special transformation at Escola Francisco Gonçalves de Brito. Our goal is to help young people become interested in and get to know the classics of literature for their educational and human development,” he concluded.
