With emphasis on construction and the sugar-energy sector, the MS industry opened 1,300 jobs in February | Mato Grosso do Sul

Building construction and alcohol production activities were highlighted in keeping the hiring balance in the industrial sector of Mato Grosso do Sul stable in February this year. Industrial activity as a whole was responsible for opening 1,342 formal jobs in the state, resulting in 9,309 hirings and 7,967 dismissals

The data comes from the Industrial Radar survey of the Federation of Industries of Mato Grosso do Sul (Fiems). The numbers indicate an accumulated 3,485 vacancies opened by the industry in the first two months of 2024. The total represents a share of 33% of the total vacancies opened in the state in the indicated period.

The industrial activities that created the most vacancies in February were:

  1. construction of buildings (+297);
  2. alcohol manufacturing (+224);
  3. specialized services for construction (+122);
  4. highway construction (+103);
  5. sugar manufacturing (+98);
  6. assembly of metal structures (+73);
  7. iron ore extraction (+48);
  8. industrial assembly works (+48).

According to the chief economist at Fiems, Ezequiel Resende, all industrial activities in Mato Grosso do Sul ended February 2024 with a total of 159,311 workers employed. “Indicating, so far, an increase of 2.24% compared to the end of the previous year, when the contingent stood at 155,826 employees”.

In relation to municipalities, the Fiems survey shows that in 50 cities, industrial activities recorded a positive hiring balance in the period from January to February 2024.

Among the cities with a positive balance, the following stand out:

  • Campo Grande (+1,072);
  • Nova Andradina (+376);
  • Ribas do Rio Pardo (+323);
  • Três Lagoas (+269);
  • Dourados (+246);
  • Corumbá (+226);
  • Angelica (+106);
  • Paranaíba (+98);
  • Aparecida do Taboado (+80);
  • Sidrolândia (+71);
  • Eldorado (+67);
  • Rio Brilhante (+65);
  • Itaquiraí (+61).

On the other hand, in another 23 municipalities, industrial activities registered a negative balance, with the closure of 241 vacancies. Among the cities with a negative balance are: Chapadão do Sul (-41), Batayporã (-33), Rio Verde de Mato Grosso (-29) and Caarapó (-25).
