The Sport x Ceará game, in the quarter-finals of the Copa do Nordeste, continues to be shrouded in controversy. The newest chapter involves the demonstration by the Military Police of Pernambuco (PMPE), which recommended upon being summoned by the Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) that the match be played behind closed doors. The match is scheduled for Arena de Pernambuco, on April 10th or 11th.

PMPE, the Pernambuco Football Federation (FPF) and Sport were provoked by the STJD to present the security plan for the decisive duel for the quarter-finals of Nordestão. The measure was a reflection of the action taken by the Ceará Football Federation (FCF), which requested that the game not be held in Pernambuco or played behind closed doors.

The allegation is the feeling of lack of security due to the attack carried out by three groups from Leão’s main organization on the Fortaleza bus in the early hours of February 22, after a game at the Arena de Pernambuco also for the Copa do Nordeste.

The letter in which Pernambuco public security admits its inability to guarantee “absolute security” for those participating in the game (fans and professionals) was signed by the PMPE commander, Ivanildo César Torres de Medeiros.

It is worth remembering that Sport is playing with its fans at the stadium thanks to a suspensive effect granted by the Superior Court of Sports Justice itself, which had previously punished Leão with eight games behind closed doors – the club served two. The new trial is scheduled for April 9th.
