The federal government released R$401,760.00 for the Government of Roraima to reinforce actions to combat the impacts of this season’s severe drought. The ordinance of the National Secretariat for Civil Protection and Defense was published in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU).

According to the Fire Department, the resource will be used to purchase 54 thousand liters of diesel to supply the large number of vehicles used in Operation Safe Summer, in an “appropriate response to helping the population affected by the drought”.

The corporation clarified that the current required consumption “exceeds the estimate predicted and supported by the State of Roraima”. “The vehicles are supporting the operation’s actions, such as digging waterholes and drinking fountains, drilling artesian wells, fighting forest fires and delivering food baskets”, he highlighted.

Starting from Tuesday (2), the state government has 180 days to implement the actions. After the ordinance ends, the entity must account for what was done with the money within 30 days.

In addition to this resource, Roraima received another almost R$7 million, including R$6.6 million for the purchase and distribution of 30,000 basic food baskets in nine municipalities for three months, and R$350,000 million for renting water trucks.

For all actions, the State requested R$29 million, but has not yet received specific resources to combat the fires, as it does not have the money to hire firefighters. In this case, the State Audit Court (TCE-RR) gave the Government three days to comment on the hiring of professionals, following action by the Public Accounts Ministry (MPC-RR).
