The State Government, through the Secretariat of Environment and Sustainability, will present, on the 11th, the first results of BlueRio, a program that regulated and implemented a startup hub with solutions to Rio de Janeiro’s environmental challenges. In total, 289 startups registered, of which 194 are international, representing 47 countries from all continents.

“BlueRio meets the strategic moment that our state is going through, in a year of major meetings and international agreements by the G20, with important investments in environmental policies and promoting synergy between economic development and adaptation to climate change”, he highlighted Governor Cláudio Castro.

Known for being at the forefront of environmental studies and policies in Brazilian territory, the State of Rio de Janeiro is once again taking the lead, as the initiative is unprecedented in Latin America. BlueRio is a collaborative program dedicated to the economy of the sea, pioneering and carried out in partnership between the secretariat and the State University of Rio de Janeiro and with open innovation consultancy from Beta-i Brasil.

The innovation hub, which attracted startups with technological solutions for eight partner companies linked to the maritime economy, in addition to the environmental department itself, is inspired by successful initiatives around the world and brings together companies with different innovation profiles. The objective is to concentrate solutions analyzed locally for five macro strategic areas of impact for the Fluminense territory: Sanitation, Ports and Logistics, Navigation, Sustainability and Energy.

“It is with great pride that we will see the new fruits of BlueRio in favor of the Blue Economy over the next few months, always aiming to optimize the economy in synergy with our biodiversity”, stated the Secretary of Environment and Sustainability, Bernardo Rossi.
