In recent years, the increase in the use of electronic cigarettes among young people can be noticed in different countries, including Brazil. The fact raises concern among health professionals and regulatory authorities, who warn about the significant health risks associated with the use of the device, especially among younger people. With this in mind, the Department of Education of the Federal District, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, developed the project Preventing the Use of Electronic Devices for Smoking and Tobacco.

This Tuesday (2), 200 students from the 5th and 6th years of the Elementary Education Center (CEF) 306 Norte attended the lecture on preventing the use of electronic cigarettes given by Ricardo Marques, psychologist from the Health Care and Support Management of the SEEDF student. Throughout 2024, the action will be carried out in 40 public schools.

The objective of the meetings is to offer quality information to raise awareness among teenagers within their own school units. “This project has a simple and direct methodology so that the content is assimilated by our students, with the aim of raising awareness among these young people about the negative impact on health of the use of electronic smoking devices”, commented Ricardo.

During the conversation with the students, data on the history of use of these devices among young people was presented and the potential that electronic cigarettes have to become a common habit among them was highlighted, as they were popularized due to their more attractive and different aroma and flavor. than that of a conventional cigarette.

“I found the lecture very interesting because electronic cigarettes are a way of making cigarettes more attractive among young people and we need to know that. I also really liked the breathing exercise that the teacher taught us”, said CEF 306 Norte student, Klara Luna.
