Amazonas has 29.6% in the proportion of higher education courses with the highest quality indexes and occupies 19th place in the list of states with institutions that appear in the performance ranges of the Preliminary Course Concept (CPC). The data was released this Tuesday (02/04) by the National Institute of Educational Studies and Research Anísio Teixeira (Inep). The last place on the list is occupied by three states in the North: Amapá, Rondônia and Acre, which have 19.4%, 19% and 9.7%, respectively.

Espírito Santo has the highest proportion of higher education courses with the highest quality indexes. According to Inep, in 2022, 171 courses in Espírito Santo were evaluated and, of these, 48.5% (83) are in the highest performance ranges of the Preliminary Course Concept (CPC).

Only the Federal University of Espírito Santo has courses at this level of quality. The list includes Law, Social Services, Administration, Economic Sciences, Accounting Sciences, Psychology, Administration, Advertising and Journalism.

Rio Grande do Sul, Bahia, Mato Grosso do Sul, Ceará, Paraná and Rio Grande do Norte complete the list of seven states that have at least 40% of the courses among the best in the country. In Rio, 35% of public and private courses are in bands 4 and 5. In São Paulo it is 29%.

The CPC is made up of four variables: the Enade Concept has 20% of the weight; the percentage of teachers with a master’s or doctorate corresponds to 30% of the grade; the student’s perception of the course they took results in 15% of the index; and, finally, the Difference Between Observed and Expected Performance Indicator (IDD), which measures the student’s progress by comparing their Enem score with that of Enade, has 35% weight in the CPC.

After quantifying all these indicators, Inep assigns a score to each institution and, based on an average of these scores, distributes the institutions into five performance ranges: from the worst (range 1) to the best (range 5). This means that, based on this criterion, it is possible to determine which are the best and which are the worst higher education institutions in the country and what leads to this performance.
