In addition to the investment in housing, Morada Nova de Minas also received R$5.2 million to renovate a bridge.
The transfer was made by the Government of Minas Gerais, the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG), the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) and the Public Defender’s Office of Minas Gerais (DPMG) as part of the Reparation Agreement with Vale. City halls will be responsible for implementing the projects.
The agreement establishes a series of measures to be complied with due to the damage resulting from the collapse of the Vale dam, which took 272 lives and generated a series of social, environmental and economic impacts in the Paraopeba River basin and throughout the state of Minas Gerais. .
According to the MPMG, the resources from the Reparation Agreement allocated to 24 municipalities affected by the tragedy have already totaled R$1.6 billion since 2023.
See below the amounts allocated to each city and the respective projects:
- construction of 17 popular housesin the Jardim Canela neighborhood, with resource of R$ 13.7 million and expected completion of 25 months after the start order.
- Construction of 28 popular houses which will benefit families in the municipality who will be selected by the City Hall. Feature of R$ 10.7 million and expected completion of 28 months after the start order.
- Construction of 60 houses popular in the Abel Duarte Machado neighborhood. Resource of R$24.5 million and expected completion of 34 months after the start order.
- Construction of 26 houses popular in rural areas that will benefit families in the municipality that will be selected by the City Hall. Resource of R$ 16.7 million and expected completion of 35 months after the start order.
