Santa Catarina is the only state with a life expectancy of over 80 years – OCP News

In recent years, Santa Catarina has become a reference in education, sewage system, treated water and reducing the level of poverty. All of these factors have contributed to, today, the state being the only one with a life expectancy of more than 80 years.

The longevity of people from Santa Catarina is the highest in Brazil for both men and women. Women in Santa Catarina live an average of 84.18 years, and men, 77.72 years, while the national average life expectancy is 77.40 years.

The data was collected through IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) and shows that, based on this parameter, Brazil will only reach 80 years of total life expectancy in the 2040s.

A Brazilian born in 2023 is expected to live, on average, 77.4 years (73.96 for men and 80.86 years for women). Also according to IBGE, the projection is that in 2060 this index will reach 84.4 years.
