Three people die in Vila Isabel during the invasion of Morro dos Macacos by rival criminals
Three people died in a confrontation between criminals in Morro dos Macacos, in Vila Isabel, in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro, in the early hours of this Wednesday (3). Residents of the region say they were woken up by many gunshots at 4am.
The exchange of gunfire between bandits was caused by a dispute between criminals from the community of São João, in Engenho Novo, linked to the Comando Vermelho, who invaded Morro dos Macacos, dominated by the Third Comando Puro.
The disputes between the bandits went beyond the community’s borders and reached Rua Souza Franco. André Oliveira Vieira, 41 years old, was killed. The family said he was passing by and was hit by gunfire.
The other two dead were shot in the community.
Residents of the area say they have been suffering from clashes between criminal factions for at least a year.
On the same street, security camera images recorded the invasion of two criminals who tried to hide in a building. They even jump over the fence to escape.
The Military Police stated that they operate in the region and have reinforced policing at the main accesses to the community.
