The job market is booming in the city of Rio. On this Labor Day (1/5), the numbers from the New General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Caged) released by the Ministry of Labor and Employment reveal that, in the first quarter of 2024, 21.8 thousand new formal employment opportunities were created in the municipality, which corresponds to 50.3% of the total in the state of Rio de Janeiro. This number exceeds the 8.4 thousand new vacancies created in the first quarter of 2023. The data was collected and analyzed by the Carioca Labor Observatory and the Rio Economic Observatory.

Since 2021, 280.1 thousand new formal jobs have been created in the city, 75.6% in the services sector, 10.7% in construction, 8.6% in commerce and 5.2% in industry. This total of new vacancies in the municipality represented 48.6% of the total in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

The municipal secretary of Labor and Income, Everton Gomes, draws attention to the relevance of the numbers.

– The results of job creation in Rio are not the result of chance. In February 2022, the municipal management already celebrated the recovery of all vacancies lost during the Covid-19 pandemic, surpassing the national panorama at that time. Rio City Hall is committed to a healthy business environment and the promotion of formal vacancies, which protect workers with CLT and Social Security – stated the secretary.

The municipal secretary of Urban and Economic Development (SMDUE), Chicão Bulhões, analyzes the positive outlook as a reflection of correct actions.

– The city’s economy is booming, generating formal employment opportunities for Rio residents and increasing the total number of formal workers. We have focused on improving the business environment, attracting investments and increasing business confidence, and the numbers show that the results are coming – highlighted Chicão Bulhões.

As a result, the stock of formal workers in Rio is 2.0 million (53.7% of the State of RJ), 67.0% in the services sector, 18.3% in commerce, 8.5% in industry and 6.2% in construction.
