The State Department of Health (SES), through the Health Surveillance Directorate (DVS), released the second Rapid Survey of Aedes aegypti Infestation Index (LIRAa) which indicates an increase in the number of municipalities with a high risk of infestation. Eight cities in Sergipe are at high risk, 54 are at medium risk and only 13 municipalities are at low risk.
The second LIRAa of 2024 identified eight municipalities at high risk, these being the municipalities of Simão Dias (9.0), Itabaiana (8.3), Areia Branca (7.1), Salgado (5.9), Capela (5 .8), Nossa Senhora da Glória (4.8), Siriri (4.1) and Cumbe (4.0). The municipalities with medium risk rose to 54 and, consequently, only 13 cities are at low risk.
The satisfactory index ranges from 0 to 0.9; that of medium infestation from 1.0 to 3.9 and that of high risk above 4.0. Among the municipalities in satisfactory condition for Aedes aegypti are Canindé de São Francisco (0.8), Itabi (0.8), Pacatuba (0); Pebbles (0.6); Santana de São Francisco (0.9) and among others. It is worth mentioning that in the municipalities where the indexes were classified as low risk, it is important that technicians and municipal managers check other indicators as well, such as the number of pending properties that were left unvisited, because there may be some focus on them.
Municipalities that appear or remain at high risk need to check where gaps in mosquito control work are occurring. Some showed a significant increase from the first to the second LIRAa. The city of Itabaiana went from (4.0) to (8.3); Simão Dias went from (6.4) to (9.0); Areia Branca went from medium risk (1.7) to high risk (7.1), representing an increase of 34.4%
