With Eduardo Paes dancing Madonna, students graduate from courses run by the Women’s Secretariat

Mayor Eduardo Paes participated, this Wednesday (01/05), in the graduation of more than four thousand students who took training courses under the Women of Rio program, Casas da Mulher Carioca and Salas Mulher Cidadã, promoted by the Special Secretariat of Policies and Promotion of Women. At the ceremony held at Espaço Hall, in Jacarepaguá, the graduates received certificates of completion of courses in different modalities, including building electrician, PHP programming, mechanical welder, administrative assistant, English, elderly care, trancista, eyebrow design .

– Today is the beginning of a new phase in your life, believe and have hope. Everyone leaves here with a certificate, it’s not easy to get there, give up certain things or face barriers. Mothers are the best example of this. But it is possible to make things compatible and share responsibilities with men in tasks that have always been considered women’s tasks. You can be whatever you want. Leave here proud, congratulations to you, conquer the world – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The trainees will also be able to participate in L’Óreal Paris’ training, Stand Up Against Harassment, a program that teaches how to react appropriately to situations of sexual harassment in public spaces. The graduation was attended by partners Senac RJ, Firjan, Senai, Abraço Cultural, in addition to the Yduqs Institute which, in partnership with Estácio university, raffled off 150 free courses, a scholarship for a high school technical course and one for graduation .

– Our graduation represents a transformation in the lives of more than four thousand women. This makes us certain that the best path to follow is one where women have access to opportunities and dignity. After all, a woman with opportunity can change the world – highlighted the Secretary for Women, Lidiane de Paula.

The Women’s Secretariat has trained more than 200,000 women since 2021, in courses run by Casas da Mulher Carioca, the Mulheres do Rio program, and partner institutions. The five Casas da Mulher Carioca, located in the North and West Zones, are spaces for promoting and combating violence against women. In addition to training courses and workshops, these units offer legal guidance, psychological care and social services. The Women of Rio program works on the axis of economic autonomy for women from Rio de Janeiro through professional training, aiming to boost female employability throughout the city of Rio de Janeiro.

The Secretariat plans to open new registrations for training courses by August this year, and will continue to have vacancies open throughout the year for workshops, conversation circles and short-term training in the Citizen Woman Rooms. In total, there are 10 Rooms in communities in the North, West and Gamboa Zones, with the aim of promoting empowerment, citizenship and encouraging the territorial belonging of Rio women.
