Although it has already been approved in the Chamber of Deputies, for it to be fully implemented, it needs to be approved in the Argentine Senate, where the governing party has only seven of the 72 senators.

The CGT issued a statement in which it claimed the date and repudiated the measures taken by Milei’s government.

“When all social, labor, union and social security rights are threatened, it is a day to demand and defend the achievements and acquired rights that are intended to be violated”, stated the CGT in the statement.

Union and political groups held events across the country, although the main one was in central Buenos Aires, with thousands of people carrying union banners in the city center.

“We are in a government that does not understand workers, their struggle and the defense of unions for workers. Therefore, we will have difficult days and moments if this government does not change its attitude towards workers,” said Rubén Aguiar, baker and union leader , to AFP.

There was room for some curious moments, like that of a woman who sang a tango in honor of Eva Perón from her window open to the street.
