The Instituto Brasil Solidário holds the 2024 workshop day in the cities of Irecê and Iraquara, in the interior of Bahia, between the 3rd and 10th of April. The practical workshops of the Education Development Program (PDE), which include art and culture, are open to all educators in the public education network.

The training will be held on April 3, 4 and 5, at Escola Municipal Marcionílio Rosa, in Irecê (BA) and on April 8, 9 and 10, at Escola Municipal Professora Zélia Ribeiro Coutinho, in Iraquara (BA).

On the last day of the workshops, students promote music, theater, visual arts, puppetry, creative workshops, reading and photography in an event open to the public, free, inclusive and accessible for educators, pedagogical coordinators, directors, students and technicians from the Municipal Education Department.

Education Development Program Workshops

The Education Development Program works on the integral development of students, encouraging creativity and expression, promoting self-confidence and self-esteem, inclusion and diversity. Through its training method, IBS has already impacted 1.4 million students across Brazil. In Bahia alone, 18 municipalities are already served.

Through the Brasil Solidário Biennial Plan, in the Culture Incentive Law, IBS prepared an intense journey, involving everything from training in Theater, Painting and Drawing, Puppet Theater, Music, Creative Workshops, Photography, to training in Reading Mediation , including the construction of literary spaces and the donation of a collection of 500 books to each municipality, in addition to the delivery of a kit for reading actions with puppets, aprons, bags and literary rugs. For the educommunication proposal, each school will receive 3 cameras.

Art and culture as transversal themes

Using recycled, reused materials that are easily accessible in the community, the workshops will present simple, replicable ideas that are already being multiplied in 26 states and more than 400 municipalities throughout Brazil through the PDE methodology.

In the Reading Incentive axis, the school will gain playful and creative literary spaces, with furniture being built from recycling. The reading corners will have tire poufs, shelves and pallet niches, as well as cushions, rugs and literary aprons made from scraps.

In music, instruments will be built with reused materials, using desks that would be discarded at school, buckets, drums, PVC pipes and glass bottles to produce carafes and glassphones.

In the Puppet Theater, all characters will be created from PET bottles, small pieces of PVC and scraps collected by school students, as well as natural elements from each region, such as typical seeds and leaves, practices that can be mobilized in an interdisciplinary way in the pedagogical activities in the classroom.

Return and reunion with generations

The cities included are former partners of IBS, where it has been operating for more than a decade. According to Luis Salvatore, president of IBS, the expectations of the teams going to Irecê and Iraquara are high, after all, it will be the reunion 13 and 15 years after the first time they were in the cities.

From this reunion, IBS hopes to witness the work that impacted generations, with projects that broke the boundaries of time, the challenges of political transitions and were the result of proposals initiated in the classroom and that opened up great opportunities for the personal and professional development of the then children and young people from the benefited communities.

The Legacy of IBS

In Iraquara, IBS left as a legacy the first Municipal Library, installed in the region in 2012, completely modern, named after the President of IBS, Luis Eduardo Salvatore, with headquarters in the region’s Cultural Center, which continues to mobilize the community in practices of art and encouragement to reading, community kitchen, all free of charge. In Irecê, the Municipality’s Cultural Point, added workshops promoted in schools, with radio activities, photography and reading encouragement, which have trained young entrepreneurs and qualified them for the job market in the region.

EAD Trainings

Expanding training opportunities for educators in the public education network, with reach throughout the State of Bahia, the Instituto Brasil Solidário is open for registration for EaD – Distance Learning courses.

Training is offered free of charge, including access to all platform content, in addition to interactive classes with the participation of education professionals from the five regions of Brazil. Registration can be done online.
