Amazonas will have temperatures above normal between the months of April, May and June this year, according to the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB). The information was released this Tuesday morning (2) during a flood alert in Amazonas.

According to Gustavo Ribeiro, researcher at the Amazon Protection System Management and Operational Center (Censipam), the seasonal climate forecast indicates above-normal rainfall only in some regions of the Center and North of the state.

“In April, May and June, we begin to see drier air entering the southern part of the Amazon, reducing the amount of rain in the southern region. However, on the coast and in the western Amazon region there will be rain in addition to than normal, mainly in the West and Northwest regions of Amazonas”, he explained.

Normal rainfall is predicted for the Center and in some parts of the North of Amazonas, in the second quarter of 2024. Furthermore, the forecast also indicates below-normal rainfall in part of the Southwest of Amazonas and the South of the state.
