Next Thursday (the 4th), the Rio de Janeiro City Council will discuss the readjustment of food vouchers for municipal employees. The benefit, frozen for 12 years, has been a cause for concern for employees, who see their purchasing power diminished in the face of the constant increase in food prices.

Currently set at 12 reais per day, the value of the food voucher is already insufficient to meet the basic nutritional needs of statutory employees. Given this, the category has made demands for the amount to be corrected.
Councilor William Siri (PSOL), president of the Labor and Employment Committee of the City Council, called on representatives from the Municipal Court of Auditors, the General Comptroller of the Municipality and the Department of Finance and Planning to participate in the public hearing.

– The hearing, in addition to enabling dialogue between the parties involved, seeks to find viable alternatives for updating the value of the food voucher, taking into account the financial conditions of the municipality and the pressing needs of employees – explains the parliamentarian.
