Rain floods several parts of the municipality in Bahia
More of 70 millimeters of accumulated rain were recorded in Feira de Santana, 100 km from Salvador, this Tuesday (2), in just one hour. The information was released by the city hall, which is the second largest in Bahia.
The rain caused havoc in the city: streets turned into rivers and houses were flooded. In one of the cases, on Avenida Tomé de Souza, in the Calumbi neighborhood, a car almost fell into a stream after a wall collapsed. [Veja foto acima]
Trader Glorismar Mendes saw the situation up close. According to him, the avenue was flooded and the water reached one meter high on the sidewalk. A driver had her car pushed by the flood, until the vehicle hit the wall and was left hanging.
“The car was hanging, she screamed for help and we gathered several people to go there. We tied the car to the pole and took her out of the vehicle,” he said.
Another desperate situation occurred in a condominium of houses in the city, where the seller Mário Rowlandson lives. He went through a desperate moment trying to get his son and wife out of the flooded property this Tuesday.
“My 11-year-old son went to leave the flooded house with my wife, the bookcase fell on top of him and he was underwater. My wife got her leg stuck asking for help and I had to turn around to save my family”, remembered.
Mário’s house was one of 15 in the condominium that was affected by the rain. In three of them, the walls fell.
According to the Civil Defense of Feira de Santana, with Tuesday’s rain, the historical average rainfall for the month of April has already been exceeded in the city.
No injuries were reported and there is no information about homeless or homeless people.
