Recently, the name of socialite Regina Gonçalves, 85 years old, was trending in the Brazilian news. This is because neighbors noticed her disappearance, even raising the suspicion that Regina had been placed under false imprisonment in her apartment in the iconic Chopin building, on the Copacabana waterfront.
According to neighbors’ complaints, Regina was deceived by a driver, who kept her locked inside the house for months. Businessman João Chamarelli, who said he was authorized to speak for Regina’s family, confirmed the story and said that the socialite is now recovering alongside friends and loved ones.
But the subject of this article, in fact, is the stage for the controversy: the Chopin Building. Neighboring the Copacabana Palace hotel, the one-tower building was opened in 1956, has 12 floors and 60 luxury apartments (some of which are valued at more than R$8.5 million).
Units from R$5.2 million to R$8.5 million
According to real estate agency Loft, which has two units for sale in the condominium, the apartments range from 300 to 344m², and can have up to 4 bedrooms (3 of which are suites), 5 bathrooms, 2 parking spaces and an elevator.
The 344 m² apartment, like where socialite Narcisa Tamborindeguy lives, has a frontal view of the sea, private hall, large living room, worked marble floor, 4-room lounge, toilet, 4 bedrooms, 2 suites, master with closet and whirlpool . This type of unit costs up to R$8.5 million.
The other apartment, measuring 300 m², has 3 bedrooms, 1 suite, 3 bathrooms and 1 parking space. This unit is being negotiated on the real estate agency’s website for R$5.2 million.
With a view of the sea and a side facing the Copacabana Palace pool, the building is not always well regarded by hotel visitors, as guests can be seen in the pool by the building’s residents. Additionally, residents who pay a monthly fee can use the famous hotel’s swimming pool, spa and gym area.
It is also worth highlighting that Chopin is the address of several famous people, including actress Maitê Proença, singer Gilberto Gil, as well as socialite Narcisa Tamborindeguy and her sister, Alice Tamborindeguy.
