New law guarantees benefits and facilitates access to services

A historic achievement for the transplant community in Rio Grande do Sul: Law No. 16,104, recently sanctioned by Governor Eduardo Leite, equates patients who received organs or tissues to people with disabilities, ensuring them a series of benefits in different sectors of the society.

The measure, which modifies Law No. 13,320 of 2009, guarantees transplant recipients preferential service in various locations, such as healthcare establishments, banking institutions and airports. Furthermore, they now have the right to reservation of places in public competitionsfacilitating entry into the job market.

The bill, designed by deputy Gustavo Victorino (Republicans), aims to guarantee the full social participation of transplant patients, combating exclusion and promoting equal opportunities. According to the parliamentarian, the approval of the law represents a milestone in the fight for citizenship and dignity for this portion of the population.

Life after a transplant requires special care, such as regular use of immunosuppressant medications and antibiotics. The new law recognizes these needs and provides specific accommodations in the work environmentfacilitating the professional reintegration of patients.

On another front of struggle, deputy Luciana Genro (Psol) presented a bill that aims to speed up the issuance of the student free pass for transplant recipients. The proposal creates a Intermunicipal provisional authorizationensuring that students are not hindered by bureaucracy while waiting for the final analysis of the documents.
