French insurance company CNP Assurances will allocate R$2.5 million (500 thousand euros) to support business initiatives with socio-environmental impact in Amazonas, in five associations: AACRDSU, ASAGA, APADRIT, ASPACS and AMIATA. The actions will be carried out by the Institute for Conservation and Sustainable Development of the Amazon (Idesam), a civil society organization that promotes alternatives to foster a sustainable economy in the region.

The objective will be to promote entrepreneurship and income generation for around 500 Amazonian families in the production and manufacture of vegetable oils, nuts and small wooden objects furniture – by planting more than 5 thousand trees to restore areas impacted by the community.

According to André Vianna, technical director at Idesam, the objective is to structure community-based businesses and socially strengthen families.

“In practice, we will offer technical and management advice for sustainable value chains, strengthen organizations in business management and support more directly in the commercialization of products”

explains.

For François Tritz, CEO of CNP Seguradora (a branch of CNP Assurances in Brazil), the support comes from a focus on both the forest and its residents. “We believe that conservation involves supporting communities in sustainable activities. It is difficult to think of a preserved forest without investing in the training of the region’s residents”, he states.

“CNP Assurances is a company used to protecting people. This type of investment is directly in line with our reason for being and our vision of the future”

concludes Tritz.
