Proposal gives the State greater autonomy in granting new railway sections

The government of Santa Catarina is working on the construction of the State Railway Law. The proposal will be fundamental so that the State can have the autonomy to authorize the concession of new railway sections. The forwarding of this legislation was discussed by the Secretary of Ports, Airports and Railways (SPAF), Beto Martinswith the Superintendent of Railway Transport of the National Land Transport Agency (ANTT), Ismael Trinksin Brasilia.

“We have two railway projects underway in Santa Catarina and we came to seek information on how to prepare our legislation for the sector. With a State Law, we will be prepared for the next steps, such as the possibility of authorizing concessions”, reinforces the secretary.

During the hearing at ANTT, the State also demonstrated interest in requesting the delegation of existing railway sections, if the current concession is not renewed. “If this happens, this is a possibility that we intend to explore further with ANTT. Santa Catarina will have a reinforcement in its assets that could increase the value of a future railway concession package in the State”, adds Martins.

The agenda in Brasília also included a meeting at the National Railway Transport Secretariat (SNTF) and another at Infra SA. SPAF members presented the projects that are underway, aiming for future partnerships and the integration of Santa Catarina projects into national planning for the expansion of the railway network.
