In 2022, pilots reported sightings of unidentified lights in the skies near Porto Alegre, with descriptions of flashing blue lights.

Although many consider these lights to be UFOs, their origin remains unknown and may include atmospheric phenomena.

In 1982, during Vasp Flight 169, the pilot and passengers saw an unidentified bright light, which changed color and approached the aircraft.

On May 19, 1986, witnesses in several regions of Brazil saw luminous objects flying across the sky, in an event known as “official UFO night”.

Air traffic controllers detected these objects on radar, and several pilots reported similar sightings, describing predominantly red lights.

Due to the risk posed by the objects, the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) sent fighters to intercept them.

Some recent sightings have been identified as Starlink satellites, but older cases still lack a definitive explanation.

Natural phenomena, optical illusions and fragmentation of objects in the atmosphere can contribute to unexplained sightings.

Groups of satellites launched in formation can be mistaken for UFOs due to their appearance and movements in the sky.

Fragmentation of objects in the upper atmosphere, such as meteors or space debris, can create strange light patterns in the sky.

The Columbia space shuttle accident in 2003 resulted in re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere and the fragmentation of the vehicle, creating a light show in the sky.
