The slow movement of a cold front of weak intensity associated with a low pressure center brought instability during this Monday in Rio Grande do Sul with the rain being more concentrated in the south of the state, although precipitation occurred in points in other regions of the territory. gaucho, such as the Center, the West, the valleys and the Serra.

According to data from official stations from the National Institute of Meteorology, the accumulated rain in 24 hours until the end of yesterday afternoon amounted to 33 mm in Capão do Leão, 28 mm in Tupanciretã, 21 mm in Jaguarão, 12 mm in Camaquã, 11 mm in Canguçu, 10 mm in Bagé, and 3 mm in Uruguaiana, Livramento and Dom Pedrito.

Stations of the National Disaster Monitoring Center (Cemaden) indicated higher accumulations in the South of Rio Grande do Sul with rainfall records of 81 mm in Pedro Osório, 52 mm in Arroio Grande, and 32 mm in Jaguarão.

In Rio Grande, intense rain totaled more than 100 mm in parts of the municipality and there was flooding in the city. In the late afternoon and early evening, there was the formation of strong areas of instability between the Taquari Valley, the Caí Valley and part of the Serra with heavy rain and isolated wind storms.

In almost all places the instability was not strong, but in Camaquã an extremely localized strong wind caused damage to a municipal school, which had tiles ripped off by the force of the wind with the fall of a tree on the school’s sidewalk. In Centro-Serra, hail fell in large quantities in part of the municipality of Arroio do Tigre, in the town of Coloninha.

While in many cities in the West and South the temperature did not exceed 25ºC this Monday, the maximum remained above 30ºC in the Northern Half with another hot day. The temperature in Santa Rosa, for example, reached 35ºC, a very high maximum for April.

Maximum temperatures of 33ºC to 35ºC were recorded in the Northwest, in the valleys and in Greater Porto Alegre. In the metropolitan area, Campo Bom reached 33.5ºC while in Porto Alegre the Botanical Garden recorded 31.7ºC, a maximum more than 5ºC above the historical maximum average for April.

This Tuesday, the low pressure center will already be over the sea on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, while the cold front advances a little further to the North and cools the weather in cities in the central part of the state, such as in the Porto Alegre area. .

The cold front of weak activity advances through Rio Grande do Sul this Tuesday with greater cloudiness in part of the state and rain in different regions. Rain tends to be very irregular and does not rain at all in many cities. Despite the instability, the sun appears with clouds in several locations throughout the day.

Milder air brings a day of pleasant temperatures in the West, Center, South and East of the state. In Greater Porto Alegre, several points do not exceed 25ºC. In the Northwest and North of Rio Grande do Sul, however, warmer air still acts and keeps the temperature high, although with lower maximums than those observed yesterday.
