A 65-year-old man was ‘swallowed’ by a crater that opened just as he was passing along a sidewalk in Cachoeiro do Itapemirim, in the south of Espírito Santo, on the morning of this Monday (1st). The hole was also ‘covered’ by the garage door of the property in front of the scene of the incident.
The scene was recorded by security cameras. In the video, it is possible to see the moment when the victim was walking along the sidewalk when, as he passed in front of a property’s garage, a crater opened beneath him. As soon as the sidewalk gives way and the elderly man is swallowed, the iron gate and part of the wall fall and ‘cover’ the hole. See the video:
The elderly man, who is an orthopedic doctor, was taken to a private hospital. No details were released about his health status. A Civil Defense team was sent to the location and isolated the area. A team from the water concessionaire BRK was also at the scene and reported that the incident was not related to the water and sewage network it operates.
Cachoeiro do Itapemirim City Hall said it will send a team to the site to assess the causes and carry out the necessary repairs.
