Firefighters rescue woman in Serra da Onça

A 60-year-old woman was trapped in a rock wall known as Serra da Onça, in Mata Grande, a municipality in Sertão de Alagoas, when she was returning from a hike to the top of the mountain. She had to be rescued at an altitude of 1,016 meters, without injuries.

The episode took place last Thursday (28). In the rescue videos, it is possible to see a Fire Department soldier using rappelling techniques to safely lower the woman. (watch above).

g1 AL located the woman who was rescued. Josefa Rocha, known as “Zefinha”, is from São Paulo and moved to the interior of Alagoas about 2 years ago. She said she went to the mountains alone to see the place, but ended up getting lost on the way back.

“I took the wrong path and ended up getting stuck. I started screaming for help until some people appeared and started to help me. A while later, with the help of the firefighters I was rescued without any injuries”, said Josefa.

The place is well known in the city. Upon hearing the screams for help, many people appeared to try to calm her down until firefighters arrived to rescue her.

Firefighters made a tie-down approximately 30 meters above the victim to safely remove him. A military firefighter who was part of the team that provided assistance commented on social media about the difficulties of the rescue.

“We faced several difficulties in the rescue due to the hostile environment for rescue at height, but thank God we managed to rescue her without a scratch,” Sergeant Samuel Freitas wrote on Instagram.

After the rescue, people at the scene stopped Josefa to take photos with her. Despite the scare, she says she will definitely go back to the mountains because the view is very beautiful, but this time, pay more attention so as not to get lost.
