Tailings dam remains without stability certificate after new inspection at INB
The tailings dam at the Caldas (MG) unit of Indústrias Nucleares do Brasil (INB) continues to lack stable stability. The new stability condition statement was updated over the holiday.
In the case of the tailings dam, the new document was signed last Friday (29). The document states that a regular safety inspection was carried out in accordance with the dam’s safety report on March 9 of this year and that the stability of the tailings dam was not attested.
ANM reclassified the dams. The agency classifies dams into three emergency levels, with the Caldas dams being the lowest of them. The first safety inspection after that, in September last year, also did not have a stability certificate.
With the change of supervisory body, D4, an INB structure, was considered a dam, also at emergency level 1. In September last year, the stability of the passage had not been confirmed either, but in a new inspection, on March 20, there was a change and the safety was confirmed.
The production of EPTV Sul de Minas contacted INB to find out more details about security measures that may have been taken to make this change happen, but so far there has been no response.
