An elderly man, aged 72, was charged with raping his granddaughter, aged 5, in Uberlândia, Triângulo Mineiro. The information was released by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG) this Monday (1st). The girl’s mother and grandmother were charged with failure to act.
The investigations were carried out following a complaint and arrest in the act of the person being investigated, on March 11th.
At the time, the mother went to the police station to say that she picked up her daughter from her maternal grandparents’ house and, while bathing, noticed an injury to the girl’s private part — which would have told her about the sexual violence.
When interviewed, the victim’s mother informed that two previous episodes had already occurred, one of them eight months ago. On another occasion, about a month ago, the suspect allegedly committed the crime again, and the mother noticed further abuse.
“What draws attention is that even in the face of the report of sexual abuse, the mother continued to allow it and leave the child in the company of the grandfather,” said the delegate responsible for the case, Lia Valechi.
“The mother also said that the maternal grandmother, the wife of the person being investigated, discredited the child’s speech and said that they should not take any action, since her husband was a pastor and this could cause a scandal,” he added.
