Develop PE Project holds first Ideathon with indigenous students in Pernambuco

“Innovation for the protection of lands and original cultures” will be the theme of the Ideathon Origens, which will take place next Tuesday and Wednesday, April 2nd and 3rd, in the territory of the Pankará people, in Carnaubeira da Penha.

This will be the first event of its kind held with students from indigenous communities in the State.

The initiative is part of the Develop PE Project, which is a partnership between the Pernambuco Municipal Association (Amupe) and the Micro and Small Business Support Service (Sebrae/PE) to promote economic development policies in Pernambuco’s municipalities.

Registration for the Ideathon was completed with a total of 80 students and 11 teachers/advisors registered to participate in the event.

Ten teams from different teaching units will be represented in the competition. The innovation marathon is aimed at high school students, enrolled in state public schools that are located within indigenous territories in the municipalities of Tacaratu and Carnaubeira da Penha, in the Sertão de Itaparica.

The official opening of Idheathon will take place at 2 pm on Tuesday (02) with cultural presentations typical of the people of the region.

During the two days of the marathon, under the supervision of teachers and mentors specializing in innovation, participating students will be encouraged to work as a team to develop innovative and applicable solutions to specific challenges in their communities that will be presented at the event.

In the end, the ideas developed will be presented to a panel of experts who will evaluate and decide which were the best proposed solutions.

All group members will receive a certificate of participation and the best teams will receive prizes.

The coordinator of Desenvolvimento PE, Edmilson Duarte, spoke about the initiative, which is a pioneer in the state of Pernambuco.

“Ideathon Origens arose from the idea of ​​taking innovation events, which are common to happen in large centers, to territories that have not yet been reached in our State. This will be an opportunity for indigenous students to develop projects with the potential to make a difference in reality of their communities. With the help of mentors, the working method developed will allow students to identify priority problems and create viable solutions, which make sense within that context, to resolve the proposed challenges”, he explains.
