With the 390% increase in Dengue cases in SC in 2024 compared to 2023, the State Government, through the Department of Education, has helped to raise awareness about dengue. More than 280 thousand students from the State Education Network received information about the virus. Children and teenagers from all regions of the state had an important item on the agenda, in an initiative that seeks to raise awareness among families about the importance of combating the mosquito that transmits the disease.

Given this entire scenario, dengue prevention depends on joint action. Maintaining basic care, eliminating places that can accumulate water, is still the best way to prevent diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti. Properly disposing of rubbish, keeping swimming pools and gutters clean, not accumulating rubbish, are attitudes that need to become routine, and with these guidelines, children and teenagers will carry out prevention alongside their family and friends.

“Our kids will also help us. It is an effort by all people from Santa Catarina. We are facing this mosquito and we will overcome this difficult moment. Santa Catarina is a warrior”, comments governor Jorginho Mello.

“The government of Santa Catarina is joining efforts to take care of everyone’s health. The school community needs to mobilize even more, in addition to the actions that are already being carried out. Everyone’s work is fundamental”, highlights the Secretary of State for Education, Aristides Cimadon.

Young Vitor, who is in the 9th year and is a student at the State Institute of Education (IEE), explains the importance of taking precautions and comments that he has already been a victim of the dengue virus. “I had already caught dengue once, I felt pain behind my eyes, fever, I really felt really bad. So I went and spoke to my father, so that we could be even more careful, not leaving stagnant water and carrying out prevention so that mosquitoes would not breed”.

Stefany, who is also in the 9th year and is also an IEE student, talks about the care she takes with her family and that she talks whenever possible about taking care of mosquitoes. “I always try to talk to my mother as much as possible, so we can take care not to leave standing water. At my house, my mother and I clean our plant pots so we don’t leave standing water.”
