At UPA Morada do Ouro, a kilometer-long queue was observed at the entrance to the unit. There were mothers with children on their laps crying and even people lying on the floor.

A woman, who preferred not to identify herself, told a report that she arrived at the scene at 7am and until 10:30am, the time when Direct Look She was at the UPA, but had not yet been treated. She went to get care for her seven-month-old daughter who has had a bad cold since Tuesday (23). According to the woman, the child had a fever all night.

“They put us in the green classification, as my daughter has a high fever. The girl just cries,” she complained. When contacted, UPA employees preferred not to speak to the reporter.

Another polyclinic visited was in the Jardim Leblon neighborhood, where the situation is a little worse. At the unit, the scenario was also crowded, but with less intensity than at Morada do Ouro. There, the clinic coordinator, Amlia Toledo, stated that there are only two general practitioners to serve the population, and no pediatrician.

According to the manager, the outsourced company that provides services to the Unit, Cooperativa de Atendimento Pr e Hospitalar (Coaph), did not send any specialist to the location.

Still according to Amlia, at the UPA there are around 60 people waiting for care, however, the number could be even higher.

While the report was at the scene, elderly Carlinda Soares, 66, went to the unit to see a doctor. She complained of a high fever and was coughing a lot. At reception, the woman was informed that, due to the large number of patients, it could take a long time to be seen. Because of this, she gave up waiting and decided to leave.

“I’m going to go home, have lunch, sleep and come back later. The receptionist said there are 70 people in front of me,” she said.

“We have to call more doctors. There’s no point in reporting here, we have to call more doctors,” she added.

Finally, the last clinic visited was UPA Verdo. Upon entering the unit, it was possible to hear the receptionist who was doing registration and screening, telling patients that the service would take a while. When questioned, the employee stated that there were only two clinical doctors at the institution and a pediatrician.

The Regional Council of Medicine of Mato Grosso (CRM) highlighted that the health of Cuiab is chaotic, a scenario that is not limited to the public network. Therefore, he advocated that the State and the Municipality come together to create a triage center, similar to what was implemented at Arena Pantanal during the covid-19 pandemic, to try to alleviate the situation.

The second vice-president of CRM, Osvaldo Csar Pinto, explains that at the moment it is necessary to carry out an educational “campaign” for the population about which network they should look for initially to avoid possible overcrowding at Santa Casa and at the Hospital Municipal de Cuiab (HMC) , units that are initially sought after by a large proportion of patients who could be served by other points.

“The collapse exists, including the CRM proposal to suspend all, at this first moment, elective procedures so that there is no vacancy, because there is a collapse. That’s concrete. And not just in the public unit. In the bathroom too. I work in all the hospitals here and I know what is happening in the private ones too”, he highlighted during a press interview this Wednesday (24).

Osvaldo highlighted that, at the moment, the only place that operates with “open doors” is Santa Casa which, according to the vice-president, ends up accepting patients who could be treated in polyclinics or health centers, taking up space for those who need necessary care. offered by the location.

The CRM board met with representatives from the Health Departments of Cuiab and the state to seek measures to expand service capacity and reduce overcrowding in the Emergency Care Units and Emergency Care Units at Santa Casa State Hospital.
