Irisin is released by muscles during physical exercise – Health and well-being

In recent years, the role of hormones in the weight loss process has gained prominence in the scientific and medical community, as well as in the fitness world. Among these hormones, one of the most relevant is Irisin, also known as weight loss hormone. Its role in regulating metabolism and promoting weight loss makes it a target of interest for those seeking a systemic and effective approach to weight loss. Irisin was discovered recently, in 2012, by scientists at Harvard University.

Brown fat vs. white fat

Irisin is primarily produced by brown adipose tissue, a specialized form of fat that has the unique ability to generate body heat. Unlike white adipose tissue, which stores energy in the form of fat, brown adipose tissue is metabolically active and can burn calories to generate heat. The activation of this tissue, and consequently the production of Irisin, can be stimulated by several factors, with emphasis on physical activity.

Practice of physical activity, nutrition and sleep regulation

Regular physical exercise is one of the main drivers of Irisin production. Studies have shown that different types of activities, such as resistance exercise, high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and even low-intensity exercise, can increase levels of this hormone in the body. Furthermore, the combination of aerobic and strength exercises appears to be especially effective in maximizing Irisin production.

Cold – Another relevant aspect is the influence of ambient temperature on the activation of brown adipose tissue and the production of Irisin. Exposure to cold stimulates the metabolic activity of brown adipose tissue, leading to the burning of calories and the production of heat. Therefore, outdoor activities during the colder months or exposure to environments with lower temperatures, such as cold baths or cryotherapy, can be additional strategies to enhance the effects of Irisin in the weight loss process.

In addition to physical exercise and exposure to cold, other factors can also influence the production of Irisin, such as sleep quality, stress and diet. A balanced diet, rich in whole foods, fiber and proteins, and low in refined sugars and saturated fats, contributes to the regulation of Irisin levels and optimizes weight loss results.

Benefits

Improved insulin sensitivity,
Reduction of inflammation and
Protection against metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity.

Several studies are underway to explore the therapeutic potential of Irisin in the treatment and prevention of metabolic and weight-related conditions. The scientific community is dedicating significant efforts to deepen understanding and find effective solutions for controlling obesity. Researchers around the world are committed to exploring diverse approaches, from new therapies and drug interventions to innovative nutritional strategies and targeted physical training programs. These studies, like Irisina, aim to not only combat rising obesity rates, but also provide a better quality of life and well-being for millions of people around the world.

Pernambuco Notary Offices register more than 80 requests for organ donations in 30 days of AEDO

The Pernambuco Notary Offices, in collaboration with the Judiciary, announced that more than 80 people have formalized their intention to be organ donors through Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation (AEDO) in the last 30 days. This digital document, available on the official website www.aedo.org.br, officially certifies the person’s willingness to be an organ donor and is processed online by a Notary’s Office. According to data provided by Brazilian Notarial College – Federal Council (CNB/CF)the entity that represents the country’s Notary’s Offices, the State of Pernambuco registered 84 requests, contributing to a national total of more than 4,570 requests in all 27 federative units of Brazil until May 1st. “In the inaugural month of the launch of the Electronic Authorization for Organ Donation (AEDO), offered by the Notary’s Offices of Pernambuco, we can already witness the tangible benefits that this initiative brings to our society”, highlights Dayse Nunespresident of CNB/PE. And he adds: “From simplifying bureaucratic procedures to raising awareness about the importance of organ donation, this platform not only facilitates, but also cultivates an atmosphere of solidarity and hope among the citizens of Pernambuco.” Currently, more than 2 thousand people are on the transplant queue in Pernambuco, highlighting the urgency and importance of this type of initiative to save lives.

World Ovary Day: gynecologist warns of the importance of early diagnosis of cancer

As World Ovarian Cancer Day approaches, celebrated on May 8, experts warn of early diagnosis to save lives. Ovarian cancer is one of the cancers with the highest mortality rate, reaching 70% according to data from the Brazilian Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics Associations. According to the gynecologist, Soamy Bezerra, this occurs because of the difficult identification of the disease. The onset of the tumor generally does not show initial signs, which makes ovarian cancer treatment difficult as it develops late. According to data from New Global Cancer Data (GLOBCAN 2020), ovarian cancer will increase mortality by 50% by 2040.

“Ovarian cancer takes a long time to present signs, which leads women to not suspect the disease. It is important that everyone knows their own body well, as some symptoms are subtle, such as abdominal bloating or a feeling of a full stomach quickly after meals, pelvic pain (a little different from menstrual cramps, but continuous), changes in bowel habits (diarrhea or constipation), rapid weight loss and weakness”, he warns.

Ovarian tumors are divided into three broad categories. Epithelial tumors that start from the cells that cover the external surface of the ovary, generally affect women over 50, 60 years old, represent around 85% of cases. Germ cell tumors, which start from the cells that produce eggs, are generally rarer, and represent about 5% of ovarian cancer cases. Stromal tumors, which begin from cells that form the ovary and produce female hormones: estrogen and progesterone.

Some of these tumors are benign and do not spread beyond the ovary. Malignant or borderline ovarian tumors (low malignancy potential) can spread to other parts of the body, explains the specialist. To diagnose ovarian cancer, the healthcare professional must perform a gynecological clinical examination, which may be accompanied by laboratory and/or imaging tests.

Due to the lack of symptoms in the early stage of ovarian cancer, it is recommended that these tests be carried out regularly, especially if the woman is part of the risk group for the tumor. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that the Pap smear, a test carried out to identify cervical cancer, is not used to diagnose ovarian cancer.

Also according to Soamy, the people who have the most factors for developing the disease are women of advanced age, who had their first menstruation early or had late menopause. Women who have never had children also appear to be more predisposed to ovarian cancer. “For treatment, surgery or chemotherapy may be performed depending on the extent of the tumor and the age and clinical conditions of the patient”, he concludes.
