Young people prepare tents for the Campus Party technology marathon

-

One of the most frequented spaces at Campus Party Brasil editions is the campsite for participants of the biggest technology and culture event. gamer from the country. In the sixth edition of the event in Brasília, it is no different. The two floors of the covered balcony of the Mané Garrincha Stadium are the favorites of the so-called campuseiros, because they are filled with already erected blue canvas tents. Participants paid up to R$469.15 to occupy one of these tents individually or in pairs. Volunteers registered to work at the event have the right to individually occupy one of them without paying anything.

Since the Camp Party Brasília 6 (CPBSB6) camping area was opened to the public on Tuesday afternoon (26), the common scene for now is that of young newcomers carrying inflatable mattresses or mats, as well as pillows. , sheets, backpacks and equipment to help you stay with a little more comfort and safety. They arrive alone, in small groups and even caravans of people who share the same tastes. It is not uncommon for those who arrive with boxed computers, a set of LED lights to create an atmosphere like an electronic games house and even large chairs for the gamers, more ergonomic and who are used to spending hours in front of screens.

Nailton Cerqueira, 21, took a few days off from his job as a waiter in the Federal District to dedicate himself to what he likes most: watching robot fights and meeting people. This is his fourth participation in Campus Party editions: two in Brasília, one in Goiânia (GO) and one more in São Paulo. “I came to enjoy the people, make friends, have a lot of networking in the area that attracts me most, which is technology”. Nailton arrived accompanied by his friend, student Júlia Jesus, who has other interests. “As I also go to college, I am interested in academic dissemination of scientific knowledge, especially for the general public, for those outside academia.”

The festival organization estimates that 2,500 campers will adopt the campsite as their home by Easter Sunday (31). The festival provides the tents and everything else is up to the participants.

Tips

Unlike the Boy Scouts’ rural spaces, there are no stoves, trails, dense forests or marshmallows on the grill. The campers from camping of CPBB6 have over their tents not the sky, but the concrete of the stadium. And instead of grass, the facility’s hard floor.

And to make it easier to find where you’re going to spend the night, the row information and tent number for each tent are registered on the event credentials and help occupants locate themselves among so many tents stuck together.

The eye-catching towels are a way to find tents more easily- Joédson Alves/Agência Brasil

As an additional tip from veterans of other Campus Party editions to freshmen to avoid getting lost in the ‘sea’ of identical tents, it’s best to place an eye-catching towel or beach sarong on top of the tent. You also cannot miss items such as a padlock to close the tent, to preserve the belongings of the campuser who has fun in the arenas; a lamp with USB connection or a flashlight to find something in the dark and thermal insulation to protect yourself from the cold that has been on the nights in the federal capital this week. Another tip is to use hooks to hang light objects from the ceiling to gain free space, where every square centimeter is worth a lot, especially if the tent has two occupants.

The person who claims to have ignored this detail of the small environment was the mathematics teacher from the public school system in the Federal District, Cristiane Costa. To spend five days camping, Cris took three suitcases, an inflatable mattress, an air pump, and another backpack full of items that she considers essential. They are accessories for two cosplay costumes that represent characters she admires, but they compete for space inch by inch with hygiene and personal care items. But, in her luggage back, what the teacher really wants to take away is learning to pass on to her students. “These are things that I can take to the classroom, especially as a public school teacher, where many don’t have as much access. So, it’s cool to bring these things that don’t require technological objects, but use technologies, and take them to students so they can learn.”

Friend Ana Luísa Silva Barcelos, 19 years old, was the one who provided space in the tent so that the teacher could store the extra backpack that no longer fit in her area. Student of the Systems Analysis and Development course, Ana Luísa told the Brazil Agency who left the comfort of her home, located 30 km from Mané Garrincha, to volunteer at the technology event. “I chose to volunteer for the first time to learn a little more about technology, because I am entering this field. I’m still a layman. Also, I came to socialize more.” Finally, the university student admits that the fact that the volunteers had free accommodation and lunches weighed in on her acceptance of the proposal to work for free for six hours a day. “I hope to learn, make friends and eat”, says the young woman with fun.

Privileged View

The space is democratic, but some campus residents felt at a clear advantage when they had a view from the tent’s zipper of nothing more, nothing less, than the Mané Garrincha Stadium lawn, surrounded by red stands, from where, on other occasions, The public was a spectator of the 2014 World Cup games, the 2016 Olympics and shows such as Beatle Paul McCartney.

This is the case of university students in the technology sector who became friends due to American football and who play in Brasília, Isaque de Queiroz and Pedro Victor Torreão. Until Sunday, the two will put aside the oval ball and foreign sports terms such as touchdown and quarterback to enjoy the view. “It’s a good feeling to wake up like this, being able to look at the stadium is something very different from our standard. So, it was incredible. It’s a really unique thing”, agrees Isaque de Queiroz, who also makes videos for the internet, as a freelancer. Pedro Torreão, who is studying software engineering, said that he will alternate moments of searching for an internship in his field, and also establishing connectivity with companies and communities with similar tastes, with other moments of distraction, such as when he uses multiple costumes, like the character’s favorite fictional character from the anime One Piece, the pirate Luffy; and another Japanese basketball-themed animation, Slam Dunk Miyagi.

Each campuser plans to live these days in the best way possible. There are even those who swear they won’t sleep a single night to enjoy all the immersive experiences possible, practical workshops, lectures, competitions, mentoring and purchasing products from the geek and nerd world. Statistician José Valdir de Araújo joins this team of insomniacs. With little money in his pocket and committed to volunteer work for 6 hours a day on Campus, José Valdir wants to live the remaining hours of the day with intensity. And he believes he will survive well on energy drinks, several bags of snacks flavored cheeses and pots and pots of instant noodles heated in the microwave devices provided by the event organizers.

“We will be much more like campusers than volunteers. But we are there to help everyone. And in fact, I brought almost nothing. I’ve been eating snacks since yesterday and I only have clothes and hygiene utensils”, says the mathematician ironically.
