Rio- The state of Rio de Janeiro reached this Thursday (28) the mark of 71 deaths from dengue this year alone. According to the State Department of Health (SES), the probable cases are 171,954.

Since the last bulletin released by the department, the increase was eight deaths. This Thursday (28), there was confirmation of one death in each of the following cities: Nova Friburgo, Maricá, Volta Redonda, Bom Jardim, Valença and Resende. On Wednesday (27), one death was recorded in Barra do Piraí and another in Campos dos Goytacazes.

SES-RJ clarified that these eight deaths did not occur in the last two days. They are distributed across epidemiological weeks throughout the year. The dates mentioned refer to the moment in which the deaths were confirmed and entered into the Disease and Notification Information System (SINAN).

The state of Rio declared a dengue epidemic on February 21st. The recommendation to prevent mosquito Aedes aegyptiwhich transmits the disease, is to avoid stagnant water in containers, such as plant pots, swimming pools, bottles, old tires, among others, in addition to frequently cleaning objects that can accumulate water.

Symptoms of the disease are high fever, exhaustion, red spots, pain in the body, joints and behind the eyes. When experiencing any of these signs, people should seek medical attention immediately.
