From April 2nd to 4th, the Rio Grandense Rice Institute (Irga) will receive guests from six countries to discuss technologies that mitigate carbon emissions in rice crops. The workshop entitled “Taller de trabajo para promondo una producción sustainable de rice en América Latina y El Caribe” (Workshop to promote sustainable rice production in Latin America and the Caribbean) is part of the Global Methane Hub project and will feature representatives from Chile , Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Uruguay, in addition to Brazil.

Producers, researchers, members of governments and members of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) from each country were invited. From Brazil, participants from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa) and the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Sustainable Production and Irrigation of RS (Seapi) have already been confirmed. This is the first time this event has been held in Brazil. Last year, the workshop took place in Ecuador.

The program begins next Tuesday morning (2), at Irga’s administrative headquarters, in the Navegantes neighborhood, in Porto Alegre. On this day, the themes will involve group work by country on the future vision of the rice chain at a national level. On Wednesday (3), visits are scheduled to rice-producing properties in the municipality of Mostardas, in the Outer Coastal Plain region. On the last day (4), in the morning, the program foresees a new round of discussions at the institute’s headquarters.
