Opening on April 2nd, the exhibition brings together works by Tiago Sant’Ana, Rebeca Carapiá, Célia Tupinambá, Pedro Marighella, Anderson Ac. and Isabel Seifarth

The Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia (MAC_BAHIA), an institution managed by the Institute of Artistic and Cultural Heritage of Bahia (IPAC), an entity linked to the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Bahia (Secult-Ba) is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition “BEGINNINGS: Contemporary Ancestry”. The exhibition, which will take place between April and July 2024, brings a vibrant and diverse view of contemporary artistic expressions in Bahia.

“INITIADAS: Contemporary Ancestralities” brings together works by Tiago Sant’Ana, Rebeca Carapiá, Célia Tupinambá, Pedro Marighella, Anderson Ac. and Isabel Seifarth, six talented new generation Bahian artists whose work not only challenges traditional art conventions but also reflects a deep connection to their cultural and ancestral roots. The exhibition, on display at Galeria Contemporânea, is an unmissable opportunity for the public to delve into the richness and diversity of Bahian artistic production.

“We are very proud to present this exhibition that places MAC_BAHIA as a space for contemporary productions, mainly by Bahian artists and for the Bahian public. This exhibition is a celebration of the vitality and creativity of these artists, whose work reflects the multiple facets of our culture and identity”, comments the director of MAC_BAHIA and curator of the exhibition, Daniel Rangel.

The exhibition will feature works commissioned specifically for the event, some of which will become an integral part of the MAC_Bahia collection, enriching the museum’s collection with works that encompass diverse forms of expression, including painting, sculpture, installation, video art and much more. . A plurality not only of languages, but of perspectives and narratives that reflect on urgent and relevant issues, such as identity, memory, politics and the environment.

Open from April 2nd at 6pm, the exhibition has free entry and is open to the public.

About the Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia – The Museum of Contemporary Art of Bahia, (MAC_BAHIA) is managed by the Institute of Artistic and Cultural Heritage of Bahia (Ipac), an agency linked to the Secretariat of Culture of the State of Bahia (Secult-BA) . Opened in October 2023, the Museum has an outdoor gallery, skate park, and social spaces. MAC_BAHIA is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 10pm and on Sundays and holidays from 10am to 8pm.
