The National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit) informed that it had to change the schedule of the diversion work on BR-304, in Lajes, in the interior of Rio Grande do Norte, due to the “constant rains” and, as a result, the new forecast is that the diversion will start operating until the beginning of May.

According to Dnit, “the Department’s teams, whenever the weather conditions are favorable, have been speeding up the work, aiming to free up traffic on the stretch as soon as possible.”

Bridge will have different structure

Regarding the construction of the new bridge, Dnit reported that the preliminary project for emergency hiring of a company that will carry out the work is being analyzed by the municipality’s technical team.

“After approval of the preliminary project, the process of hiring a specialized company for construction will begin,” he said in a note.

The Dnit also said that the new structure will have different configurations from the bridge that collapsed, “aiming to increase the flow capacity in the segment and eliminate the risk of accidents occurring.”

The superintendent of Dnit in Rio Grande do Norte, Getúlio Batista, said in a press conference on April 2 that the reconstruction of the bridge could take between 6 and 12 months.
