The mayor of Salvador, Bruno Reis (União Brasil) remains widely favored to win a second term, according to a survey carried out between March 22nd and 27th by the Paraná Pesquisas institute and released this Thursday, 28th.

According to the survey, Bruno Reis – an ally of former mayor ACM Neto – has 62.3% of voting intentions, with a large advantage over his main opponent, the vice-governor. Geraldo Júnior (MDB)supported by the main PT chiefs in the state, such as governor Jerônimo Rodrigues, minister Rui Costa (Casa Civil) and senator Jaques Wagner — he has 13.8%.

Next come social scientist Kléber Rosa (PSOL), with 2.8%, and administrator Luciana Buck (Novo), who has 2.4%. Among those interviewed, 13.6% said they would vote blank, null or none, while 5.3% did not know or did not respond.

Bruno Reis’s broad favoritism had already been detected in a previous survey, by Paraná Pesquisas, in January this year, which showed him with 62.7% of voting intentions against 12.1% for Geraldo Júnior.

Government assessments

Bruno Reis’ good situation in the poll can be explained by the way voters in savior evaluate its management: it is approved by 72.1% of residents against 24.1% who disapprove of it – another 3.8% did not know or did not respond.

The management of Jerônimo Rodrigues, Geraldo Júnior’s main godfather, is also well evaluated: 56.3% approve of his work, while 39.8% disapprove of it – 4.0% did not know or did not respond.

Rejections

A problem for Geraldo Júnior, in addition to his rival’s wide advantage, is his rejection rate: 36.4% of Salvador voters say they would not vote for him under any circumstances — the highest rate in the survey — while 23.6% They say the same about Bruno Reis.

Winning the mayorship of Salvador is one of PT’s priorities in this year’s municipal elections, so much so that even the president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has already gone to the capital of Bahia to demonstrate public support for vice-governor Geraldo Júnior. The PT has ruled the state for five consecutive terms — before Jerônimo Rodrigues, Jaques Wagner and Rui Costa governed Bahia, both for two terms each.
