The number of marriages in Paraná again surpassed the mark of more than 55 thousand registrations after the most critical years of the pandemic, in 2020 and 2021. The most recent survey, by IBGE, shows that, in 2022, the number of marriages in the state stood at 55,415.

Since 2019, the first year before the health crisis, the state has not exceeded the mark of 55 thousand marriages in a single year. The numbers show a tendency for levels to evolve towards the pre-pandemic period. The number of marriages registered in 2022, the first year of the vaccinated population, was only 2.8% lower than in 2019, which recorded 57,054 marriages.

Divorces are still very close to the most critical year of the pandemic. In 2022, Paraná recorded 15,154 divorces. The number is just 1.8% higher than in 2021, the worst year of the Covid-19 crisis, when Paraná had 14,874 divorces.

Across Brazil, there were 970,000 civil marriages performed in civil registry offices for natural persons in 2022, an increase of 4.0% compared to 2021. There were also 420,000 divorces granted in the first instance or carried out by extrajudicial deeds, a increase of 8.6% compared to the 2021 total (386.8 thousand). On average, men divorced at older ages (44) than women (41).
