“Education without Barriers” event promotes discussion on preventing and combating violence against women

The Paraíba State Department of Education (SEE-PB) held this Wednesday (27) the first phase of the Training Journey “Education without Barriers”, with the theme “Preventing and Combating Violence against Women”. The event, organized by the Executive Management for Training and Development of Education Professionals, brought together authorities, managers, teachers and other professionals in the sector, with the aim of promoting learning and strengthening. On this occasion, a Guidance Booklet on Preventing and Combating Violence Against Women was also launched. The event was held at the Teacher Training Center, in João Pessoa.

In addition to the Secretary of State for Education, Roberto Souza, the Secretary of State for Women and Human Diversity, Lídia Moura, and the executive secretary for Pedagogical Management, Elizabete Araújo, were also present. The ‘Training Journey Education without Barriers: Preventing and Confronting Violence against Women’ targets managers, coordinators and teachers from the Paraíba State Education Network, as well as Emotional Health teams, aiming to prepare them to identify, prevent and confront violence against women, with special attention to female students.

“This event comprises a preliminary diagnostic assessment, training sessions taught by experts, distribution of a guide booklet as additional support, and a process of monitoring the actions implemented by schools after training. Such efforts are aimed at having a positive and lasting impact on the civic consciousness of students and the development of a society that is more receptive and attentive to today’s social demands”, explains the executive manager of Training and Development of Education Professionals, Tatiane Andrade.

The first block of lectures was led by professors Glória Rabay and Valéria Rufino, both specialists in gender and violence against women, together with mediator Ester Sousa. During the period, the speakers addressed fundamental concepts about gender violence, highlighting the importance of identifying and differentiating different types of violence, such as physical, psychological, sexual, patrimonial and symbolic. Furthermore, they discussed the impacts of this violence in the school environment, highlighting the need for a culture of respect and equality to prevent and confront such situations. They also highlighted the importance of supporting victims in the reporting process and the need to break stereotypes perpetuated in the educational environment.

In the second block, delegate Maria Sileide de Azevedo, coordinator of the Specialized Police Stations for Women’s Assistance in Paraíba; Mônica Brandão, social worker and state coordinator of the Integrated Program Patrulha Maria da Penha, Captain Gabriela Jácome, state commander of Patrulha Maria da Penha, together with mediator Ester Sousa, brought their experiences and expertise in the area of ​​public security and prevention policies to violence against women. They highlighted the importance of joint work between different institutions and public policies to promote the safety and protection of women, especially in situations of domestic violence. During the chat, strategies were discussed to create a culture of respect and safety in schools, as well as to identify and confront situations of gender-based violence.

During moments of interaction between the speakers and the audience, those present were able to clarify doubts and exchange experiences on the topics that were discussed. On the cultural side, the event also featured performances by a female string and flute quartet from Grupo Prima, as well as student Raynara Medeiros who recited a cordel she wrote, entitled “Say No to Violence”.

“School, education as a whole, is perhaps the most important gateway to citizenship. That’s why this formative journey and the day here too, for dialogue, is a very important channel for us to be understood in everything we the school needs to establish a better society for all of us as a parameter”, highlighted secretary Lídia Moura. Secretary Roberto Souza concluded by emphasizing the importance of debating gender-based violence in schools. “This is a role, yes. , of education, in all its instances. We say that we have a task of making our children and young people learn. We cannot precede the formation of human values, within the spectrum of human rights that we have come to understand are fundamental for a more peaceful and egalitarian coexistence among all people”, he said.
