IPR/DNIT and Superintendency of Bahia implement new PRO-MeDiNa sections in Bahia

The experience will be used as a model for the expansion of experimental segments in other states in the country

Technicians from the Transport Research Institute (IPR/DNIT) and researchers from the Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB), implemented two more PRO-MeDiNa experimental segments in the State of Bahia.

At the moment, there are two types of PRO-MeDiNa modality. The first modality uses works in progress to implement the experimental segments. In the second modality, called PRO-MeDiNa B, segments of highways in operation and with a low rate of defects are evaluated, providing a more agile alternative for expanding data collection and monitoring pavements in different functional and structural situations. , aiming to improve the transfer function of the new National Sizing Method (MeDiNa).

The implemented segments are located at km 217 of BR-407/BA and at km 265 of BR-235/BA. They are 200 meters long and will be monitored annually through structural and functional assessment of the pavement. The first assessments of these segments were carried out during the IPR visit, with surveys of the cracked area and wheel track sinking, assessment of the macrotexture (sand patch), assessment of the microtexture (British pendulum) and survey of the pavement deflection basins using the Benkelman beam test. Subsequently, the pavement layers will be collected and characterized.

The experience of Bahia, which currently has 10 PRO-MeDiNa B segments, will be used as a model for the expansion of experimental segments in other states in the country. Soon DNIT will also implement segments in the PRO-MeDiNa B model in Ceará.

In addition to internal actions, IPR has also sought partnerships with DERs, aiming to expand the program to state highways throughout Brazil.

O PRO-MeDiNa is a program for Implementation and Monitoring of Experimental Segments aiming to evaluate the behavior of the pavement and improve the calibration of the MeDiNa software. This monitoring takes place within the scope of DNIT through the IPR/DPP counting on the support of the respective DNIT Regional Superintendencies where the segments are being executed.

The procedure for implementing the experimental segments of the program PRO-MeDiNa is divided into three phases: construction, monitoring and data processing.

To guide the implementation and monitoring of experimental segments with a view to evaluating the behavior of the pavement and improving the MeDiNa calibration, the Guide for Monitoring Experimental Segments – PRO-MeDiNa (IPR Publication 749).

This manual has been revised and is available after the 2nd edition. This new edition sought to improve recommendations regarding the execution of laboratory tests and field surveys. Normative documents and information related to material collection were also updated, in addition to better detailing of post-execution monitoring procedures, with the aim of contributing more effectively to the success of the experimental sections.
