The heaviest rain approaches Greater Porto Alegre and the Taquari, Caí and Sinos valleys in the middle of the afternoon this Saturday as a cold front advances through Rio Grande do Sul and forms heavy clouds as it encounters warmer air with a record of heavy to torrential rain in several cities and some isolated thunderstorms.
The image above shows the ray map (follow here in real time) observed at 2:30 pm this Saturday in which a large number of electrical discharges are observed in the West and South of Greater Porto Alegre with a tendency to move towards the metropolitan area.
One of the instability centers west of the capital passed through the Rio Pardo Valley earlier and brought heavy rain with lightning, wind and hail to the Santa Cruz do Sul area and neighboring cities in the valley.
Instability increases considerably between mid and late afternoon this Saturday in the metropolitan region of Porto Alegre and in the valleys with rain and thunderstorms. The probability of locally heavy rain is high and isolated hail and gusts of wind cannot be ruled out in some areas.
The forecast indicates that unstable conditions will persist in the region tonight and early Sunday, following the risk of sometimes heavy rain with thunderstorms. Under this scenario, flooding in cities in the region cannot be ruled out.
The cold front meets warm air in front of it. The temperature, even with the weather overcast, reached 30.7ºC in Campo Bom. In the south of Porto Alegre, the maximum reached 28.1ºC at the Aeroclube de Belém Novo. With the advance of the cold front, a sharp drop in temperature is expected in the capital area.
