Envira receives 6.5 tons of food after declaring an emergency due to the flood

Manaus/AM – The Civil Defense of Amazonas sent, this week, 6.5 tons of food to the municipality of Envira, in the interior of Amazonas, in response to the emergency situation declared due to the continuous rise of the Tarauacá river and its tributaries, in Calha do Juruá. The rise in river levels caused flooding in urban and rural areas, resulting in material, environmental, economic and social damage to the local population.

The Secretary of Civil Defense of Amazonas, Colonel Máximo, highlighted the importance of collaboration between Municipal Civil Defenses and the state, emphasizing the mutual commitment to providing assistance to affected municipalities. “We monitor the situation in the 62 municipalities of Amazonas on a daily basis, and we are ready to take complementary actions once the disaster exceeds the municipal response capacity.”

Humanitarian help

In 2023, the 62 municipalities received state humanitarian aid during Operation Drought. During this period, the State Government, through the Civil Defense of Amazonas, delivered 95,855 basic food baskets, equivalent to 1,802 tons of non-perishable food that were destined for riverside dwellers in the most distant places in the state.

109,178 thousand liters of treated water were also distributed and 65 water treatment structures were installed in the affected communities, in a joint effort between Civil Defense and the Amazonas Sanitation Company (Cosama) to implement the Água Boa program.

Civil Defense also distributed 83,340 liters of mineral water and installed 53 water purifiers and seven Mobile Water Treatment Stations (Etam’s) in the municipalities of Careiro da Várzea, Uarini, Tefé, Parintins, Japurá, Fonte Boa and Manaquiri, being eight of which are in the process of being assembled. The structures were installed on a vessel and have the capacity to serve up to 5,000 people per day with drinking water.
