Former president Jair Bolsonaro asked last week to STF minister Alexandre de Moraes the release of your passport to be able to travel to Israel. The document was seized on February 8 during the operation Tempus Veritatislaunched by the PF under authorization from Moraes.

In the request, Bolsonaro attached an invitation from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the former president to visit Israel between May 14 and 18 this year.

This Wednesday, the former president stated, in a statement sent to STF minister Alexandre de Moraes, that there is no “minimum reasons” to justify a request for political asylum at the Hungarian embassy after being the target of action by the Federal Police.

Bolsonaro, through his defense, also declared that he is It is illogical to suggest that the visit to the embassy was an escape attempt.

“Given the absence of concern about preventive detention, it is illogical to suggest that the petitioner’s visit [Bolsonaro] to the embassy of a foreign country whether it was a request for asylum or an attempt to escape. The very imposition of recent precautionary measures made this assumption highly unlikely and unfounded.”says the former president’s defense.

“There are, therefore, no minimal reasons or even a legal scenario to justify the assumption of some type of movement aimed at obtaining asylum in a foreign embassy or that indicate an intention to evade legal authorities or obstruct, in any way, the application of criminal law”add the lawyers.

As the American newspaper showed The New York TimesBolsonaro spent two days in the Hungarian embassy after having his passport seized during an operation investigating an attempted coup d’état.

After the videos were released, the Federal Police opened an investigation to find out what the former president’s intentions were and Alexandre de Moraes gave Bolsonaro 48 hours to provide clarifications.
