Golden businessman Hermógenes Aparecido Mendes Filho, 49, is appointed by the Federal Police as successor to Jorge Teófilo Gonçalves Samudio, “Samura”, one of the main leaders of the criminal faction Comando Vermelho in Paraguay.

Arrested in October 2018, when he controlled important drug trafficking routes on the border with Mato Grosso do Sul, “Samura” was rescued by the faction in September of the following year and recaptured in Sinop (MT), in April 2021. After being arrested in Brazilian territory, “Samura” would have handed over command of the organization to Aparecido Mendes.

The close connection between Aparecido Mendes and Jorge Samúdio is mentioned in the complaint filed by the MPF (Federal Public Ministry) within the scope of Operation Sanctus, launched by the Federal Police on December 8 last year.

On the 18th of this month, Aparecido and eight other people, including his brother Ronaldo Mendes Nunes, 40, who remains at large, were charged with international criminal organization, international drug trafficking and drug trafficking association, use of false documents and laundering Of money. The case is being processed in secrecy at the 3rd Federal Court in Campo Grande.

Hidden in MT – According to the PF investigation, during the period in which he was on the run in Brazilian territory, Samura, using false names “Fernando Delosanto Ortelhado” and “Fernando Delosanto de Souza”, received support from the Mendes brothers to hide on the two farms in Aparecido, Beira Rio in Feliz Natal (MT) and São Pedro, in Paranatinga (MT).

Monitoring by PF field teams revealed that, in Mato Grosso territory, Jorge Samúdio used a pickup truck registered in the name of the company Mendes & Piris, belonging to Aparecido Mendes and his wife.

In Mato Grosso, Samura traveled in the company of Wuilhan Rojas, 38, “Zóio”, administrator of the two farms in Aparecido. With an extensive criminal record, Wuilhan is also in prison and is on the list of those denounced by the MPF.

The Federal Police also discovered that Jorge Samudio used one of Aparecido Mendes’ houses, located in Jardim Terra Roxa, in Dourados, as an address reported to public bodies. The same address was also used by others involved in drug trafficking, including drivers of trucks used to transport cocaine from the border with Paraguay to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Paraguayan deputy – The organization chart created by the PF regarding the organization of the Mendes brothers includes the participation of Paraguayan national deputy Eulálio Gomez Batista, “Dom Lalo”, and his son, Alexandre Rodrigues Gomez, “Ale Gomez”.

The MPF complaint mentions that Dom Lalo was directly responsible for enabling Ronaldo Mendes Nunes’ escape last December. The story had already been revealed by Campo Grande News on January 30th.

On the day that the PF launched Operation Sanctus in Brazilian territory, teams from Senad (National Anti-Drug Secretariat) surrounded the property where Ronaldo was staying, in Pedro Juan Caballero, to carry out the arrest warrant issued by the Brazilian Federal Court.

However, the operation would have been reported to Dom Lalo by members of Senad’s top leadership. The Paraguayan politician would have used his own vehicle to escape Ronaldo Mendes Nunes.

When approached by Senad agents transporting the fugitive, Eulalio Gomez allegedly claimed parliamentary immunity to prevent a search of the vehicle. Ronaldo remains at large.

Alexandre Gomez, son of Dom Lalo, is identified in a preliminary survey by the PF as one of the main drug traffickers working for the PCC (First Command of the Capital).

According to the police, Ale Gomez had links with other important border traffickers, including Caio Bernasconi Braga (arrested in March 2023), Antonio Joaquim da Mota (arrested last month) and Marcio Ariel Gimenez, “Aguacate”, executed in June last year in Pedro Juan Caballero.

Jorge Samúdio is held in the Brazilian federal penitentiary system. Aparecido Mendes remains imprisoned in the state system, in Campo Grande. Ronaldo Gomes is on the run, allegedly hiding in Paraguayan territory. So far, Lalo Gomez has not commented on the allegations that he had acted to prevent the arrest of the drug dealer from Mato Grosso do Sul.
