Toto Wolff, head of Mercedes, is committed to transparency when attracting drivers to his team. After the period of dominance in Formula 1 between 2014 and 2020, Mercedes has been facing challenges with the new technical rules implemented in 2022. Wolff, however, is confident in relation to the 2026 regulations and believes that the facts about the car’s development will be enough to attract new talent.

“To be honest, I’m not good at selling ideas. I prefer… You don’t believe me, do you? It’s all about facts”, Wolff told the press at the Chinese GP weekend, when asked about the need to ‘sell’ the team’s project to close contracts with drivers. Mercedes needs to find a replacement for Lewis Hamilton, who will race for Ferrari from 2025.

“Exaggerating your qualities to attract someone is not the right way. I believe we are on a consistent development trajectory”, added the Mercedes boss.

Wolff is confident that Mercedes is on the right track to fight for the title again. “We set ambitious goals that we consider necessary to perform well. These are facts based on our current understanding. But obviously, if a rival team develops a revolutionary project, who knows? I’m not good at convincing, I just say what I think”, added Wolff.
