Unitins records an increase in the number of enrollments and reaches 4,700 students in 2024

At the beginning of the 2024 academic year, the State University of Tocantins (Unitins) recorded a 108% increase in the number of active enrollments, compared to 2021, consolidating its position as the fastest growing higher education institution in the state. Another fact that proves the good performance of the university is the level of competition in the selection processes. Entrance Examination 2024.1 registered a new record, with more than 14 thousand candidates registered to compete for the 1,920 vacancies offered.

The year 2021 is considered a watershed in the history of Unitins, due to the implementation of the Medicine course on the Augustinópolis Campus and because it is the first year of operation of the Paraíso Campus. That year, 2,304 enrollments were completed, compared to 4,784 in this first semester, which are distributed across 21 undergraduate courses, spread throughout the state, in five campuses and 15 centers of the Technological University Interiorization Project (TO Graduado).

The governor of Tocantins, Wanderlei Barbosa, highlighted that this result validates the mission of the Government of Tocantins to provide access to higher education and invest in education. “Since we took over the management of the Government of Tocantins, in 2021, we have had education as a priority, as we believe in it as a tool for transformation in the lives of Tocantins residents. This excellent increase in the number of Unitins students shows how all the measures and efforts, together, are resulting in more people having access to public education and having their lives and families transformed”, emphasized the Governor.

“Unitins worked within this vision, discussing with the Government of Tocantins, counting on the enthusiasm of Governor Wanderlei Barbosa, of the Legislative Assembly, with the aim of reaching regions where the university is important, such as expansion in the areas of health, implementation of a new campus to serve the community of Vale do Araguaia and theTO Graduate, present throughout the state. All of this balancing the quality of our classes, results, and our ever-increasing indicators, to deliver a well-trained professional”, highlighted the dean of Unitins, Augusto Rezende.

The vice-rector of Unitins, professor Darlene Teixeira Castro, pointed out that the significant increase in the number of active enrollments at Unitins is the result of joint work. “One of the objectives is to work in an integrated way, in which our academics are the reason for our university’s existence. In this way, all actions that are developed are in favor of its permanence. All teaching, research and extension projects have this objective”, she highlighted.

For the dean of undergraduate studies, professor Alessandra Ruíta Czapski, the large number of enrolled students increases the institution’s responsibility even further. “I highlight that all the processes that are developed contribute to qualitative training and reinforces our identity as an institution dedicated to contributing to the development of the state, through the training of qualified professionals to face new challenges”, she concluded.

Scholarships

The university also highlights the granting of scholarships, through various programs that directly benefit academics who carry out research, extension and monitoring activities, within the policy of supporting student retention in the classroom. The total number of scholarships rose from 1,227 in 2022; to 2,447, in 2023, according to data from the Dean of Administration and Finance (Proaf).
