Senator Izalci Lucas joined the PL this Wednesday (27) in an event attended by former president Jair Bolsonaro. Without commenting on his stay at the Hungarian embassy after having his passport detained by the Federal Police, Bolsonaro congratulated Izalci on his membership and said that the senator is “a big name” who is joining the party.
The former president states that, with Izalci’s arrival to the PL, the party has a total of “12+1” senators.
Izalci said he was not joining the PL, but rather “returning”. The senator left the PSDB to return to his old party.
The party president, Valdemar Costa Neto, was present at the event, but left at the beginning so that Bolsonaro could participate. The two are prohibited from talking to each other by decision of Minister Alexandre de Moraes because they are the target of an operation investigating an attempted coup.
Former first lady Michele Bolsonaro, deputy Bia Kicis and senators Rogério Marinho and Magno Malta and other parliamentarians were present.
Bolsonaro’s defense
Former president Jair Bolsonaro’s defense informed minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Supreme Federal Court), that there was no concern about preventive detention and that”it is illogical to suggest that his visit to the embassy [da Hungria] and a foreign country was an asylum request or an escape attempt”.
“Former president Jair Bolsonaro has an agenda of political commitments, national and international, which, despite no longer holding a mandate, remains extremely active, including in relation to foreign leaders aligned with the conservative profile”, said the defense .
This week, Moraes ordered Bolsonaro to explain within 48 hours why he stayed at the Hungarian Embassy between February 12 and 14, four days after having his passport detained by the Federal Police.
